The " Fairy Luco " or the fairy's wood of
Rossano Veneto
Rossano Veneto
is a frontier land for many legends linked to the imaginary
of the venetian provinces of Vicenza, Treviso and Padua. His
plain landscape is dominated by the panorama of Grappa massif
whose tales descend across Valsugana and flow along the rivers
and the spring-water.
In this landscape, where the economy and the ordinary
life keep pace with modern life and daily work of venetian
enterprises, we feel the need, or better the call, to
recover a fanciful even thought real world in the everyday
relationship with our life, that is a world which always
peopled the fantasies of our ancestors.
This initiative started in Rossano thanks to the promotional
action of a sensitive and learned councilor, namely prof.
Morena Martini. She felt that mere work does not ennobles
man, rather man becomes
slave to the factor which in this area is known as "schei"
(money).
The future progress
of culture is based on the rediscovery of one own's
traditions and culture roots. Fairy tales can markedly
contribute to their recovery and exploitation.
In order to develop the Fairy's Wood at Rossano, Butterfly
Arc carried out specific investigations and collected
contributions and interviews of those people who have
been living for a long time in this territory. Such
people are likely to keep the memory, perceptions and
emotions of those reported as tales, and most of all
the resultant of really many emotions, activities, problems,
joyful and fearful moments, as well as of the daily
interaction with other indviduals and environment.
Councilor Morena Martini writes as follows:l
“In the Rossano Veneto territory people since
ever reminds and tells tales and events of everyday
life, whose protagonists are magic creatures who appear
to emerge from an enchanted kingdom. These creatures
people the fairy world of Rossano. As of today, their
handing on through generations has faded away, and this
process parallels the deterioration of the relationship
between nature and mankind.
The woods, which symbolize an incontaminate state of
nature, and represent a meeting site for magic creatures,
are presently becoming less and less frequent; the wood
of Rossano represnts an exception, and its secular trees
grow following rules whic remind those typical of ancient
nature rather than those established by man.
It
is into this wood that Rossano Veneto fairies decided
to return; for the first time they can be observed in
their most characteristic attitudes. In this site one
will rediscover a fantastic world, originated by the
fantasy and the hard daily interaction of man with his
own land; this world provides a magic key for a better
understanding of the surrounding life and allows one
to experience emotions which are as old as the world
itself.
On the basis of this introduction all of you are welcome
to visit the Fairy's Wood thereby participating in the
revival and evocation of important aspects of our history
and culture.
A particular of the FAIRY LUCO
“Most
creatures appearing in this magic wood are essentially
those well known to the imagination of Venetian
people. Many of them in the wood receive local
names: thus, streghe (withces) are renamed strighe,
whereas Anguane (fairies) are known as Fade.
On the other hand, other creatures, well known
to the people and still playing a major role
in tales told by parents and grandparents, have
never been adequately represented in pictures
or illustrations. Therefore, it is likely that
creatures such as the “Rosteo Sensa Sangue”
and “el Martoreo” come to life for
the first time, while other more famous individuals,
such as Orcus and Sanguaneo, that are of local
origin, take a special image as never before.
These reasons, coupled with the ingenious activities
of Luca Zanta, who painted the creature Luco
Fatato, and Francesco Bonini, who gave a significant
contribution to the production of this idea,
in collaboration with Livio Regazzo, Eugenio
Pappalardo and other friends, as well as with
the work carried out by Dr. Gabriella Tamino,
explain why this initiative appears to be outstanding
for its original features, as well as for its
magic atmosphere and the extraordinary place
hosting it:the monumetal park of villa Caffo
Navarrini at Rossano Veneto.”
